Museum of Ethnology, Burgdorf
The Museum of Ethnology first opened its doors in Burgdorf in 1909, showing eager visitors display cases full of curiosities from faraway lands. It went by the name "Schiffmann'sche Sammlung" (Shipman's Collection).
Today, the museum's collection comprises over 5000 items representing the cultures of Asia, Africa, the Americas and Oceania. It's quite extraordinary that a small Swiss city would be home to such a Museum of Ethnology – and for over a century now, no less.
